Prayer Update!

It was over a week ago that I asked for your prayers for my cousin Nate. And I'm sorry I haven't written much of an update on how things are going with him! So here goes...

Last Sunday (Sept. 9) we received word that he was doing really well - he was able to get out of bed, walk to a chair and sit in the chair for almost 2 hours!! That was amazing to me! He even called my aunt & grandma & others and sounded like he was in great spirits. He also had an appetite that day for the first time, and drank a fruit smoothie & even ate chinese food! WOW!

Now as of a few days ago, here is the update from my Aunt & Uncle: He is now dealing with swelling and pain in his lower back to the side of the incision, which made wearing the back brace impossible yesterday afternoon and evening so he couldn't even sit in the chair. Good news - his x-rays are looking good! The hardware (rods, screws, etc.) appears to be doing the job it was hired for.

And as of last night (Thurs.) I received this update: We have a little road block right now...Nate has a large red/inflamed area around his shoulder blades, massive spasms in his mid-lower back and now a fever to go along with the increased pain...he has been miserable since his long walk yesterday. (They've had him walking down the hall for physical therapy.) He had an x-ray and CT Scan....His veins collapsed today and they had to call in ultrasound to find one.. the lab is busy growing his blood cultures right now...he's on a different antibiotic and they went back to his heavy IV pain med. Once again, I have surrendered his care to the master physician above and his great folks at OSU Hosp...a year from now we'll still be grateful for his healing.

So that's what is happening at the moment. Prayers are definitely still needed for him, but praise God for how far he has come in the last week! It's amazing what the power of prayer will do!

On another note, my step-Grandma who I briefly shared last week as being diagnosed with lung cancer, and was given 6 mos. to 1 year to live, now is believed to not have cancer after all. After running some tests, the doctors did not see the spot they once saw and sent her home from the hospital at the beginning of this week! (We're all a little confused!) However, she has become frail and though she has her own home, she cannot take care of herself or stay alone, so John (my step-Dad) and his sister are taking turns staying with her everyday and night. This has put much stress on their family, so we definitely need to keep them in prayer. This routine of someone staying over there day in and day out cannot continue indefinitely, yet most parties involved are not keen on putting her in a nursing home or any facility like it. So some hard decisions will have to be made soon, I presume and we shall keep them in our prayers.

That's all on the 'prayer front' - thank you for lifting up these concerns to the Lord! We all appreciate it!
